An avid practitioner of integrating diversity and inclusion into the innovation, entrepreneurship and investment ecosystem, Sampson was appointed as the first Executive-In-Charge of Diversity & Inclusion of One Three Media – a capacity he served in from June 2013 – June 2014.
One Three Media, a joint venture between Hearst and Mark Burnett Productions, produces The Voice, Survivor, Celebrity Apprentice, Sharktank, The Bible Series, Son of God & A.D: The Series.
On December 6th, 2013, @RodneySampson‘s @Kingonomics, the definitive platform to decrease the wealth gap in America via innovation, entrepreneurship and investment was highlighted on ABC’s Sharktank. 7.5M+ people watched the hit show on that evening setting a new record for the show’s weekly viewership to date.
During this tenure, Sampson increased the participation of black, brown and women owned companies on Sharktank by educating, training and advising the executive producers on innovative best practices in diversity; enhancing the casting process by increasing outreach to organizations such as the U.S. Black Chambers, US Hispanic Chamber, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s), Black Enterprise, SXSW, Movement 50, Kingonomics, Opportunity Hub, MLT, Minority Supplier Development Council, TIE and Atlanta Technology Development Center (ATDC); and casting Troy Carter, a venture capitalist and Lady Gaga’s former manager, as a guest shark.
Sampson is also responsible for influencing Mark Burnett on the casting of black disciples and arch angels in A.D.
At present, Sampson continues to work with Mark Burnett on a project by project basis to ensure that the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion continues to be intentional and authentic.
